OUR MISSION

Creation of Exquisite Pastries

Pastel de nata, Portugal’s iconic egg custard tart, dates back to the 18th century. It was originally made by monks at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, who found a creative way to use egg yolks, since egg whites were used to stiffen clothes. When the monastery faced financial challenges, the monks sold the recipe in 1820, leading to the opening of the Pastéis de Belém bakery in 1837. Today, these golden, crispy tarts are a symbol of Portugal’s culinary heritage and are enjoyed by people all over the world. Whether served with coffee or on their own, pastel de nata is a timeless classic with a rich history.

At Bakingwmaria, our mission is to redefine how people experience baked goods. We craft each pastry with the utmost care to achieve perfection, blending traditional recipes with innovative techniques to create an incomparable sensory experience for our customers.

MY STORY

My interest in sweets began as a child, at my grandmother's house. She introduced me to the magic of the kitchen, and over time I went from being a curious observer to baking by her side – always under her loving but watchful gaze.

When I was a student, there was nothing better than coming home to her favorite cakes – a simple but powerful way to show care. This has left a deep impression on me: For me, baking is about more than taste – it’s about sharing, about love and community.

As an adult, I have continued this tradition with my own children. Baking has become a regular ritual in our home – a time we create together and share with others. Every cake we make and give away is a small gift of thought.

Today I share this passion with my partner Hugo. As Portuguese, we have grown up with high pastry standards, and we therefore set high standards for what we make – always with a focus on quality, love and true craftsmanship.

Everything we do today is founded on memories, heritage and passion.
